Pininfarina to call its 1400kW/2300Nm electric hypercar the Battista in honour of company founder Battista Pininfarina.

Pininfarina has announced it will call its limited-edition (150 units) all-electric hypercar the Battista in honour of the company’s founder, Battista Pininfarina. The Battista is the company’s first electric vehicle and, as such, it sought out partnerships with Rimac Automobili an electric powertrain and battery maker – it will be the fatest and most powerful car ever built in Italy.

But what does that mean? Well, it’s claimed the Battista will accelerate from 0-100km/h in just two seconds which is faster than a Formula One car. It’ll have an expected range of around 500km and will hit the market in 2020.

Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman, Pininfarina SpA, said: “This is genuinely a dream come true. My grandfather always had the vision that one day there would be a stand-alone range of Pininfarina-branded cars. This hypercar will boast world-beating performance, technological innovation and of course elegant styling. For me, we simply had to call it Battista. His dream becomes reality today as we link our glorious past with the future of motoring.”

The price of the Battista is expected to be around $3million with only 150 units being built, 50 slated for the US, 50 for Europe and 50 for the Middle East and Asia.
