Ferrari has revealed official images and details of its FXX K ahead of its full reveal at the Finali Mondiali event at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
BASED ON THE LaFerrari (Ferrari’s first hybrid model), the FXX K won’t become a production model, rather it’s been built as a test vehicle for a select group of “Client-Test Drivers” and is guaranteed to provide an “unprecedented driving experience”. It will be rolled out for testing by its client-test drivers in 2015.
The FXX K – the K refers to its “KERS” kinetic energy recovery system – gets a 6.2-litre V12 engine and electric motor that thumps out a combined 772kW and more than 900Nm of torque. The squeeze out extra oomph, Ferrari says its boffins fitted new camshafts and a modified valve train with mechanical rather than hydraulic tappets. The intake manifolds have been redesigned and given a special type of polishing treatment. The exhaust system has been modified via the elimination of silencers.
Beyond mechanical enhancements and a clever KERS system, the FXX K features a twin-profile spoiler and a larger splitter, which is 30mm lower (than splitter on the LaFerrari), with a gap in its centre. At the back, the tail section is now higher and the mobile spoiler extends further for a total increase in extension of 60mm when fully deployed. In all, cosmetic changes to the FXX K have improved downforce by 50%, which equates to a figure of around 540kg at 200km/h.
The FXX K gets new Pirelli slicks all around with sensors that monitor longitudinal, lateral and radial acceleration, as well as temperature and pressure. This system helps the traction control system to ensure maximum performance. And the E-Diff electronic differential, F1-Trac traction control, Racing SSC (Side Slip Angle Control) have all been tweaked to work with the car’s slick tyres, with the ABS able to controlled via the five-position Manettino on the steering wheel.
