2015 Vencer Sarthe revealed
Start-up car maker Vencer has announced details for its 2015 Vencer Sarthe supercar which boasts 457kW and 838Nm and a price tag of almost $400k.
SEEMINGLY ONLY moments after the news came out that Dutch sports car maker, Spyker, had stopped paying its employees, came the news that another Dutch car maker, Vencer, was showing off a production version of its Vencer Sarthe.
Vencer was founded in 2010 and last year a preproduction prototype of the Vencer Sarthe had the hanky whipped off it at the Top Marques Exhibition in Monaco by Prince Albert II of Monaco. Fast forward to now and the company has said in a statement that work has already begun on the first batch of customer cars which will get tweaked exteriors, improved interiors and a new engine (in all, there are more than 100 tweaks).
Named after the famous ‘la Sarthe’ circuit, Vencer said: “The MY2015 production model has some notable new exterior design features including a new quarter glass design, open air-flow C-pillars, a new engine cover, aerodynamic front splitters and an automatic rear spoiler. The new quarter glass design in clear coat carbon with open C-pillars increase the aerodynamic flow and together with the automatic rear spoiler they provide additional down force on the rear axle. A new engine cover design and larger side air inlets have been integrated to ensure a greater airflow and cooling to the new engine”.
So, what is this new engine it keeps talking about? Well, powering the new Vencer Sarthe is a 6.3-litre supercharged V8 thumping out 457kW (at 6500rpm) and 838Nm of torque at 4000rpm. This is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. No performance figures have been published.
Under its cool-looking skin sits a lightweight chrome-molybdenum chassis with honeycomb structure and full carbon-fibre bodywork, with an optimal 45:55 weight distribution. There’s a Torsen limited-slip differential and cost-optional four-wheel hydraulic lift system.
Each new Vencer Sarthe will be hand-built at the company’s new facility in Vriezenveen, Netherlands. The brand is hoping to grow output to one car each month – it has just opened a showroom in China. Prices for the Vencer Sarthe start from AUD$389,000 (+ORC).
