To mark the one-year countdown until the fifth Invictus Games in the Netherlands (May 2020) Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, founder and patron of the Invictus Games was given a sneak peek of the new Land Rover Defender.

The new Land Rover Defender will make its global debut later this year along with Land Rover’s Mobility door which will open and close the vehicle door at the press of the button. And to mark the one-year countdown until the fifth Invictus Games in the Netherlands in May 2020, Prince Harry was able to get a look at a camouflaged prototype of the new Land Rover Defender.

Land Rover are a presenting partner for the Invictus Games and participants will be among the first people in the world to drive the new Defender “when they tackle the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge for the opening medals of the Games”.

As part of Land Rover’s involvement in the Invictus Games which was born as a way to use sport “to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding of and respect for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women” the car maker has developed ‘the mobility door’. This will allow the car door to be opened and closed via powered assistance. Occupants won’t need to reach out and pull the door closed.
