The limited-edition Mitsubishi Pajero Final Edition has been launched in Japan with just 700 units offered with the car maker announcing an end to domestic sales.
The Mitsubishi Pajero will continue to be sold around the world for a little while longer, but Mitsubishi in Japan announced the big 4×4 would go off-sale in August. The limited-edition Mitsubishi Pajero Final Edition is limited to just 700 units.
The decision to end sales of the Pajero in Japan is partly down to falling sales with the 4×4 failing to sell 1000 units last year (only several hundred vehicles were sold) due to stricter emissions laws being introduced and greater focus on other Mitsubishi SUVs.
Mitsubishi is keeping quiet about the Pajero in other markets but it’s expected to continue for another couple of years. What then? With Mitsubishi part of the Renault Nissan alliance, there’s a chance the Pajero could end up being based on a Nissan platform, most likely a future Armada.
The Pajero Final Edition is on-par with top-spec models currently sold in Australia, although there are a couple of unique extras, like a bespoke Citizen watch that buyers will be given, a chrome spare wheel cover and mudflaps with aluminium plates that spell out ‘Pajero’.
