The all-new Great Wall Ute has been revealed in Adventure ute trim with the Chinese car maker saying it’ll go on-sale here next year.

The all-new Great Wall Ute has been revealed with an electric version (with a 500km range) set to be revealed at Auto Shanghai on April 16th. And given what GWM executives have been saying for the last two years there’s a good chance that vehicle will come to Australia too.

Confirmed details are still thin but we know GWM will launch three variants of this ute (this Adventure ute, an Urban Spec one and the EV) which is much bigger than the Steed (which is known as the WIngle in its home market).

GWM has gone out on a limb and claims its Adventure model will offer “segment leading 4WD capabilities”. And these, it says, are a built-in winch, triple diff locks, 900mm fording depth (the Ford Ranger offers 800mm where most others offer 500mm), and a seven-setting All Terrain Control System.

The GWM ute will share its underpinnings with the new Haval H9 and we know it’ll have a 3000kg braked towing capacity and an eight-speed automatic. The engine is an unknown at this stage but could well be either a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, although two years ago Practical Motoring was told the engine was likely to be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol plug-in hybrid – this engine is slated for Haval’s refreshed SUV line-up.

Indeed, the GWM Ute will be built alongside the next-generation Haval H9 at the company’s Chongqing factory.
