Skoda Yeti Xtreme revealed
Hot on the heels of its apprentice-built Skoda CitiJet, Skoda has revealed another concept to be shown at the GTI event at Wörthersee, the Skoda Yeti Xtreme – a concept rally car based on the comapct SUV.
AROUND 200,000 PEOPLE are expected to attend the 33rd running of Wörthersee in Reifnitz, Austria (28-31 May), and it’s the fifth time Skoda will be taking part – it’ll also be showing the apprentice-built CitiJet.
Starting out with a Skoda Yeti, Skoda’s designers converted the vehicle into a rally-cross vehicle combines the power of an all-wheel drive SUV (with a height adjustable chassis) with design elements and equipment features of a rally car, or so Skoda says.
The car is powered by a 1.8 four-cylinder TSI engine (producing 112kW) which is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG). The maximum torque of 250Nm is available from 1500 and 4200 rpm. The Yeti Xtreme accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 9.0 seconds; its top speed is 192 km/h. The Yeti Xtreme features special Octavia RS brakes.
The matte-grey Yeti sits on 17-inch alloy wheels and off-road-oriented tyres. It features tinted side windows, while roof and wheel rim inserts are set off in bright yellow-green. At the front, there’s a new bumper with a larger air intake, LED headlights round out the front-end. And, if the going gets rough, the height of the chassis can be adjusted. The boot includes a full-size spare wheel and ‘recovery tracks’, special traction mats that can be pushed under the wheels, should the car get stuck in sand.
The interior offers four individual Recaro sports seats with integrated four-point safety belts. Other features include the ‘Super Sport’ steering wheel with integrated gearshift paddles. The interior door linings have been made from carbon fibre, while a shovel (to aid in recovery situations) and a thermos flask have been integrated into holders fitted in the panelling; the floor panel is made from aluminium. The centre console has been completely re-defined. This is where standard rally car accessories live, such as a belt cutter and a fire extinguisher. An iPad cradle is integrated into the dashboard, and there’s a first aid kit into the glove box.
