Sixteen Skoda apprentices have been working for the last six months to produce the one-off Skoda CitiJet to be shown at the GTI event at Wörthersee in Austria (28-31 May).
THE DESIGN CONCEPT IS THE RESULT of hardwork by 16 Skoda apprentices (hot on the heels of the apprentice-built MINI Paceman Adventure) who took part in the ‘Apprentice Car’ project which began in November 2013. Supported by Skoda’s head designer, Jozef Kabaň, his team and Skoda production.
The tiny-tot convertible is based on the Skoda Citigo (not available in Australia) and features exclusive blue and white metallic paint, blue 160inch alloy wheels, a hand-made spoiler and twin tailpipes. Under the bonnet is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 55kW. The interior is based on the interior of the Skoda Citigo Sport and red contrast stitching on the leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift. The dashboard is painted white and red, and complementing the 300W sound system is music-reactive LED lighting.
There are no plans to put the Skoda CitiJet into production, and it’s the first project of this kind ever undertaken by Skoda. The aim, according to the company, has been to encourage the apprentices creativity, teamwork and expertise of vocational students.
“Our apprentices have put their hearts and souls into this vehicle. Every little detail, no matter how small, was discussed, agreed upon and put into practice by the team. It was a real team effort. The outcome: a unique and emotional car, of which everybody involved should be very proud of,” says Head of ŠKODA Auto Design Jozef Kabaň.
