The all-electric Morgan EV3 has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, combining handcrafting with new technology … and it looks stunning.

NEW MEETS OLD in the Morgan EV3. Yep, the world’s most beautiful three-wheeled car will now soon be available as an all-electric three-wheeler, and the starting point for the thing is still a block of wood. New meets old.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show after dropping plenty of hints online, the new Morgan EV3 looks absolutely gorgeous, demonstrating that something beautiful can come from gnarly-handed men and women working with wood and hand tools to hold an up-to-the-minute electric powertrain.

What you’re looking at here isn’t the final, final car, but it’s as close as dammit. It’s called the pre-production phase car and it’s intended to show off the look of the Morgan EV3 both inside and out. It weighs less that 500kg and will have a range of more than 300km on a full charge.

While it’ll hit 0-100km/h in nine seconds, we’d suggest that driving at 60km/h in this thing would feel fast. Morgan says, “Encased within the tubular space frame chassis is a 20KWh Lithium Battery and a liquid cooled 46kW motor driving the rear wheel”.

This Morgan EV3 is the first-ever Morgan to make use of carbon-fibre body panels; all of the body panels are made in the UK, while the remaining aluminium panels are hand-worked over the ash frame. New meets old.

Morgan describes the design as, “Taking inspiration from 1930’s aero- engine race cars, classic motorcycles and 1950’s fantasy automatons, the face of the EV3 is designed to function. Brass conductive cooling fins encase the batteries and an off-centre tri-bar headlight adds to the overall asymmetry of the design”.

The Morgan EV3 will go into production at the end of this year and “will be priced comparably to the petrol three-wheeler”. “The EV3 is an exciting opportunity for our customers to enjoy the unique Morgan driving experience and the joy of tailored manufacture whilst remaining conscientious towards the future of our planet,” said Steve Morris, Managing Director, Morgan Technologies Ltd.

Whether the Morgan EV3 will be offered Down Under is a question we’ve asked and are awaiting a response on. We’ll update this article when we hear back from the local importer.
