Porsche has revealed its second-generation 370kW 2015 Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 car for the World Endurance Championships and Le Mans.

PORSCHE HAS released images of the second-generation 2015 Porsche 919 Hybrid undertaking a shakedown test at its Weissach test track ahead of five days of development testing starting from tomorrow (Sunday 19 January) at the Abu Dhabi Yas Marina Circuit.

Porsche is remaining tight-lipped on details, but a short statement said the 2015 919 Hybrid was an “extensive evolution of last season’s successful car”. It features revised bodywork to make it slipperier and improve downforce, but unless you parked the two cars side-by-side the untrained eye would struggle to spot any differences, the most obvious difference is the change in position for the side mirrors, from beside the cockpit to perched up on top of the wheel arches.

Power, once again, will come from a 2.0-litre V4 turbocharged petrol engine, supplemented by an electric motor powering the front wheels, and two energy recovery systems. Total output is 370kW. Porsche says it will reveal more about the new car once it’s started testing, but it has said there’ll be several more performance and endurance tests before the World Endurance Championship (WEC) season opener on April 12 at Silverstone, Northamptonshire.
