Watch how a 652kW Porsche 918 Spyder is built
Porsche has released a video showing how it builds a Porsche 918 Spyder.
PORSCHE MIGHT have just recalled the Porsche 918, and it might be all sold out, but there’s nothing like watching a time-lapse of how one’s built to make carheads a little giddy. The video is 10 minutes long and shows you from beginning to end, more or less, how a 918, the fastest car with global road homologation around the Nurburgring with a 6min 57sec lap time. Fast.
While the final Porsche 918 has been purchased, that car won’t be built until mid-2015. Cleverly, the 918 runs a 4.6-litre V8 mated with two electric motors for a combined output of 652kW and 917-1280Nm of torque. That’s enough grunt to get the thing to 100km/h in around 2.2 seconds.
Porsche’s head of R&D, Wolfgang Hatz recently told Autocar that there will be a successor to the Porsche 918 but that there’s no set time, although he did suggest it would be sooner than 20 years.
