Hyundai has pulled out of the Red Bull Global RallyCross Series and ended its partnership with Rhys Millen Racing.
DRIFT GURU, Pikes Peak racer and now Red Bull Global RallyCross Series driver, Rhys Millen Racing was the spearhead of the Hyundai’s motorsports efforts in the US. Not anymore.
Hyundai has announced it will end its relationship with Rhys Millen Racing which, over the last six years has seen Millen and Hyundai tackle Pikes Peak, RallyCross, and Formula Drift together with success in all arenas. This year, Millen campaigned in the Red Bull Global RallyCross Series and achieved two overall victories, three heat wins, two top qualifiers, and six top three fastest lap times.
But the New Zealand-born Millen is now without a ride entering the 2015 season. He said: “This is disappointing news to the team and myself as we proved we could win or produce the top 3 fastest times in each event at the last 6 rounds of competition.
“We had achieved victories in various disciplines of Motorsport that we had partnered in the US over the years.
“This came as a real shock after Hyundai Korea had invested so much into supporting the same style of racing in the World Rally Championship.
“I am happy with what we achieved as a team and am thankful to those at Hyundai that supported the program and believed in motorsports.”
Millen said his cars will be put up for sale or offered for rent to any privateers interested in entering the Red Bull Global RallyCross series. There’s no word yet on whether he’s approached other makers for the 2015 season, but for Hyundai it will pour all of its efforts into its World Rally Championship efforts.
