Audi has revealed ever-so-slightly facelifted versions of both the 2015 Audi A1 and A1 Sportback as they hit the half-way mark in their product lifecycle.
AUDI HAS announced the Big News of its mid-life update to the A1 and A1 Sportback is that entry-level models will now be available with either a three-cylinder petrol or diesel engine. This is the first time Audi has offered a three-cylinder engine.
Design of the new A1 and A1 Sportback hasn’t changed much, with the new models getting a revised front and rear bumper, grille, head light and tail-light graphics and more pronounced door sills. In a first, the roof of the A1 and ‘roof dome’ of the A1 Sportback can be had in a contrasting colour (cost optional). The slight exterior tweaks have added 20mm to the length of the A1 which now measures 3980mm long.
When it arrives Down Under next year, there will be six engines on offer in the A1 and A1 Sportback, including four TFSI petrol and two TDI diesel engines which Audi describes as being either entirely new or having undergone extensive advanced development. Output ranges from 66-141kW while fuel economy has been improved by 10%. A seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission is available for all engines.
Audi A1 entry-level models debut the brand’s new 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder and 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel. The former offers 70kW and returns 4.3L/100km, while the diesel engine offers 66kW and returns 3.4L/100km.
Audi says it’s improved the ride and handling of both the A1 and A1 Sportback via a reworked chassis and tuned steering which backs-off its power assistance as speed increases. Both models are available with S line sport suspension and Drive Select which allows the driver to adjust steering, damping, transmission and throttle response through three modes via the car’s MMI rotary controller.
The Audi S1 and S1 Sportback carry on at the top of the range with their 2.0-litre TFSI engine producing 170kW and 370Nm of torque. Both models are available with quattro permanent all-wheel.
Audi hasn’t released local pricing for the facelifted A1 and A1 Sportback.
