It’ll be Ford Vs Holden when Shannons puts some very rare and affordable Aussie muscle under the hammer next Monday, including a John Goss Special.
WITH THE BATHURST 1000 less than a fortnight away, Shannons says its Melbourne Spring Auction will be a precursor to the annual Ford Vs Holden showdown at Mount Panorama. Featuring a selection of collectible Aussie muscle, including a 1975 ‘John Goss Special’ Ford XB Coupe and a 1972 HQ Monaro, Ford might just have the edge come Monday night (29 September).
To commemorate John Goss’ victory at the 1974 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 in a Falcon XA GT, Ford released a limited-edition version of the new XB hardtop in August 1975, each one equipped with the GS Rally Pack option; all were powered by the 302 Cleveland V8. This particular example, Shannons says, retains the model’s original (but recently rebuilt) 302 V8, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and fitted with a Ford disc brake 9-inch rear end. With as few as 260 John Goss Specials built, Shannons reckons bidding from Ford fans will be fierce and is expecting it to sell somewhere between $45,000-$55,000.
Shannons is also offering a rally-prepared 1968 XT Falcon sedan, a rare left-hand-drive 1967 Falcon Futura Sports Coupe (restored to GTA appearance) and a ‘no reserve’ 1976 Ford ZG Fairlane upgraded to full 351-plus specification.
Holden fans will be able to choose from a 1972 Holden HQ finished in Chateau Mauve Metallic with contrasting black and white Houndstooth trim. The current owner gave the Monaro a respray in 2007 and had the car re-upholstered at the same time. With its striking combination of presentation and performance, Shannons expect it to command $45,000-$55,000.
Also on offer are a 1968 Holden HK Brougham Sedan 307 that has been mechanically and cosmetically refurbished and a well-maintained 1977 Holden HX Statesman Deville, now fitted with a fresher 253-cid V8.
