2020 Honda Accord Hybrid from $50k
Honda’s luxe sedan has finally arrived, and while a smaller turbo engine is good news, the hybrid variant delivers the best deal.
HONDA’S TENTH-GENERATION Accord sedan will go on sale next month in one model trim with two different engine options. Priced at $47,990 plus on-road costs the Accord VTi-LX is powered by a downsized 1.5-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder engine producing 140kW and 260Nm. Power goes through a CVT transmission to the front wheels.
More expensive, but at a considerable $8500 discount over the previous hybrid model, the Accord VTi-LX Hybrid is priced at $50,490 plus on-road costs. It gains a 158kW/315Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid powertrain augmented by two electric motors. Fuel consumption for the model is a light 4.3L/100km on the combined cycle.
Both come well equipped, standard inclusion for the pair including 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, colour head up display, wireless phone charging, WiFi hotspot capability, reversing camera with guidelines, 360-degree birdseye cameras, parking assist and front and rear parking sensors.
Honda’s Honda Sensing safety suite brings autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitoring, collision mitigation and automatic highbeam.
Structural changes to the new model which see the wheelbase grow 55mm longer also bring a claimed quieter ride for increased comfort, larger interior dimensions, and a 570-litre boot (up by 113L).
