Australian police may soon have a new 162kW ‘offroad’ German squad car geared towards first responders.
VOLKSWAGEN WILL INTRODUCE a new fleet option to Police and emergency services departments with the addition of the first-responder-ready Tiguan Proline.
The model is suitable for all emergency services applications by way of a fully customisable package, and increased approach and departure angles and underbody protection for attending situations in remote or hard to get to areas.
VW Australia already supplies Victoria Police with the Passat Proline 132TSI for general duties – which is soon to be upgraded to the 140TSI – and a more powerful 206TSI 4Motion (all-wheel drive) used by highway patrol.

The Tiguan Proline that will be pitched to Police departments soon is based on the Tiguan Allspace 162TSI Comfortline, equipped with a 2.0-litre petrol turbo engine producing 162kW and 350Nm to all four wheels.
While the Allspace model it’s based on is a seven-seat SUV, the Proline deletes the third-row to extend boot space by 60 litres with an adjustable floor that can be set at two heights. Standard carry over features are 18-inch alloys and an 8.0-inch infotainment system.
Extra features exclusive to the Proline include sports suspension, offroad bumpers, 24-degree approach and departure angles, underbody protection, increased alternator capacity, progressive steering, active sports seats, tyre pressure monitoring, aluminium scuff plates and black roof rails.
VW Australia told Practical Motoring that the process for Police to evaluate and introduce a new model into the fleet can take considerable time, so don’t expect to see a Tiguan Proline belting down the highway with lights on until sometime after mid-2020.

Looking at the VW Aust’ website, the boot space for the Allspace with the 3rd row folded and the 2nd row seat in it’s forward position (has a sliding seat base) is 700 litres, thereby with the extra 60 litres for the Proline it will have a total of 760 litres. That’s great boot space. Having a two positional boot floor in the Allspace would be good to have. 🙂
Wonder if VW are considering bringing in a 5 seater Allspace for general sale in the future. If I was looking at an SUV, a 5 seater Allspace with the 162kW/350Nm engine would be appearing. 🙂
