All the specs on the new Land Rover Defender 2020
The great British farm truck has seen a monumental change, featuring a new design outside and underneath, different engines, transmissions, and technology. We’ve found every single spec and detail for you to ingest.
Land Rover has lifted the sheet on its all-new Defender and we’ve compiled every single spec and detail, available in the table below.
Not one component has carried across into the new model, which eschews the old steel ladder-frame for the D7x aluminium monocoque chassis underneath.
Carrying over in spirit are the 90 and 110 variants, with the 130 likely to arrive in 2021. While both 90 and 110 were previously named for the wheelbase length in inches, the new pair have both grown.
Defender 90 has three doors and measures 4323mm long with a short 2587mm wheelbase. It seats five or six with a front-row jump seat.
Defender 110 has five doors and measures 4758mm long with a 3022mm wheelbase. It seats five, six, or seven with a three-row layout. Boot space in the longer model is 1075-litres behind the second row and 2380L with the second row flat. The tailgate is right-side hinged.
The 90 rides on coil springs with air suspension available as an option; 110 gets air suspension as standard, which also gives a 145mm lift via adaptive ride height.
Ground clearance is 291mm, wading depth 900mm, approach, departure and breakover angles for the 110 are 38, 28 and 40 degrees respectively. Payload is rated to 900kg, braked towing capacity is 3500kg and the roof can take a load of 300kg when stationary or 168kg on the move.
Wheel options range from 18 to 20-inch alloys, with 18-inch white steel wheels optional. The spare hangs off the rear door and gets a cover.
The drivetrain is permanent all-wheel drive, with an eight-speed automatic transmission (the first in a Defender) mated to four engines; Australia will only get one petrol and two diesel motors.
The flagship mill is a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol turbo hybrid producing 297kW and 550nm. Smaller 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel turbos produce 147kW or 177Kw of power and 430Nm of torque. A variety of Terrain response settings are available with a locking centre differential standard and “Active Rear and Locking Differential” optional.
Technology sees a huge leap forward with an infotainment system inside and over-the-air-updates available for the car. Electronic connections are water-resistant and the 12v battery is underneath the driver’s seat.
Accessories include a 10,000lb remote winch mounted behind the number plate, rooftop tent, steel wheels, and rood racks. Seven colours are available, with matt paint finishes available with a scratch-resistant wrap.
The 110 will be available in Australia in June 2020, at an indicative price of $70,000. The 90 will follow later next year at an estimated price around $60,000.
