The new Hyundai Veloster is set to arrive in Australia with better equipment and performance, launching later this month from $29,490.
Hyundai’s second-generation Veloster will hit dealership showrooms this month with pricing from $29,490 plus on-road costs.
Revealed last year at the Detroit motor show where the Veloster N also made its debut (which Australia won’t be getting) the Veloster and Veloster Turbo range is now finally available in Australia. Hyundai’s four-door sporty hatch brings a new look, better equipment, and increased performance.
Available in three grades – Veloster, Veloster Turbo and Veloster Turbo Premium – the range comes standard with safety equipment such as lane keeping assist, six-airbags, forward collision warning, and driver attention warning.
The base Veloster is the only model to get a non-turbo engine, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol producing 110kW of power and 180Nm of torque. It comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission at $29,490 or can be optioned with a six-speed auto for an additional $2300. Standard equipment on the base grade includes 18-inch alloys with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 rubber, infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, sports seats, leather steering wheel and gear shift, automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, cruise control, climate control, and a reversing camera.
Veloster Turbo is priced from $35,490 with a manual transmission or $38,990 with seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, mated to a 1.6-litre turbocharged four developing 150kW and 265Nm. It adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward collision warning with pedestrian detection safety aids. It also gets 18-inch alloys with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber, 8.0-inch infotainment, sat nav, DAB+ radio, partial leather interior trim and LED headlights.
Flagship Veloster Turbo Premium has the same output as the Turbo and is priced from $38,990 with a manual transmission or $41,990 with a DCT automatic. Premium models get dark metallic 18-inch alloy wheels, leather trim, ventilated and heated front seats, sunroof, head up display, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, automatic wipers, and can be optioned with two-tone roof in black for $1000.
Performance-oriented upgrades to the second-gen Veloster include a quicker-ratio electric power steering system and Torque Vectoring Control (TVC) which “improves performance during cornering,” according to Hyundai’s press release. The models are also uniquely tuned to Australian roads.
