A range of classic commercial vehicles will headline the Shannons Late Autumn Auction on May 30, including a 1958 Split Window VW Kombi.
SHANNONS WILL put a right-hand drive 1958 Split Window Kombi (with camper van conversion) across the block on May 30 at its Late Autumn Auction in Sydney. The 1950s conversion incorporated a dining area that converted into a sleeping compartment, a cooking area, various cupboards and storage areas, an ice refrigerator and a water tank, “things that are expected on mobile homes today but were novelties in the late 1950s,” Shannons said.
The VW was repainted by its current owners in period green on white in 2014, while major mechanical upgrades were carried out at the same time to the vehicle’s front end and brakes, while a new all-synchromesh gearbox was fitted in early 2015. Adding to its collectability, virtually all the original camping equipment remains intact. Based on the high prices being achieved worldwide for VW commercial vehicles, Shannons expect this Caravanette to sell in the $40,000-$50,000 range.
A restored 1961 Holden EK Panel Van fitted with period NASCO accessories that has had only had two owners from new was by the vendor from the original long-term owner, this beautifully presented EK has been restored extensively, including rust repairs and a full overhaul of all mechanical systems. It is expected to sell in the $26,000-$32,000 range.
For 4WD enthusiasts, Shannons have a sought-after 1980 model Short Wheelbase Toyota Landcruiser BJ42 diesel. As the last of the BJ42 model, with a good history and in great condition, Shannons believe this Landcruiser will sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $15,000-$20,000 range.
