Mopar has revealed its modified range at the SEMA which opened overnight in Las Vegas, but it’s the one-off Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept that caught our attention.
A V8 MUSCLE CAR WITH all-wheel drive. It doesn’t sound particularly American, but it does sound like a good idea. Mopar are calling its Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept “a one-of-a-kind, year-round muscle car that lets you have your cake and eat it too, combining wickedly fast power and performance with the confidence of increased traction”. Sounds good.
In its statement, Mopar didn’t reveal where it sourced its all-wheel drive package, concentrating more on the cosmetic enhancements to the concept, engine, exhaust and suspension tweaks. As you can see from the pics, grille highlights and tail-light surrounds are painted in Header Orange with the body in Destroyer Grey.
Running a wide body kit and bulging arches, the Challenger GT AWD sits on 20-inch alloys (10-inches wide at the front and 11-inches at the rear). Mopar center caps are painted to match the body and wheels. Quad Mopar exhaust tips powder-coated in Satin Black, a Mopar fuel filler door painted Satin Black with a unique Mopar graphic and a concept Mopar Design decklid badge round out the exterior.
On the inside, Header Orange contrast stitching add to the Katzkin leather seats, center console, shifter boot and side panels. A flat-bottom steering wheel and some other bits and bobs round out the interior.
The vehicle’s 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine uses an AWD package to power all four wheels, paired with an eight-speed transmission. The 5.7-liter engine is upgraded with the Scat Pack 3 Performance Kit, which gives it a few more horses. The Scat Pack 3 Performance Kit adds Mopar Performance CNC-ported cylinder heads, Mopar hi-flow manifolds and hi-flow catalysts, a gasket set, exhaust manifolds, exhaust adapter, mounting brackets, hardware and two Scat Pack 3 badges.
A concept Mopar suspension kit drops the Challenger GT AWD Concept closer to the road (but we’re not told by how much), with production Mopar performance front and rear strut tower braces also fitted.
It’s unlikely we’ll see a production version of the Challenger GT AWD Concept, but we can all hope.
